I am a very a photographer with many years experience shooting all kinds of photos.When I look at my past images I am drawn mostly to my portraits, especially the ones that made the most connect with who that individual is. When I create a portraits I try to forget all those I have done in the past and focus on capturing a look that represents who the person is or in some cases what a person is trying represent such as an actor or commercial model.
Too often I look at model head shot and see the similar, emothionless, duck lip style image that everyone is trying to copy, the model has rules to follow and by following these rules he/she joins the crowd.

Good portraits follow rules but often the most striking photographs are those that break many of the rules and are out of the box. I like to find ways that not necessarily break rules but at least bend them.

Ask yourself this question, if my head show was in a pile of many others would the person looking through them stop at mine?
