So - I'm willing to bet that 99% of you photographers out there don't know what a bromoil photograph is. If you are an old darkroom guy like me, you may know about it. But the digital photography industry has left these incredible old processes behind and there is only a small but dedicated group of us who still promotes and practices this process.
You basically take a normal black and white photograph, bleach away the visible silver, and replace the image by hand applying any color of lithographer's ink to the print. It produces soft surreal looking timeless images that are a mystery to the casual observer. It's not a photograph and it's not a painting - it's somewhere in between. This is real fine art. If you are a "sharper is better" kind of photographer, this might not appeal to you. But if you have an interest in learning how to make hand-made prints that none of your peers can make, then you may want to consider our Bromoil and Oil Workshop coming up in July in Boulder, Colorado. The good thing is that the Oil print process doesn't even need a darkroom, so you can do it anywhere using your own digital negatives.
