Room dividers can be used for an ascent or a light modifier. Many of the photo sites list divider as a simple ascent for the background, but they can be used as a free standing light modifier.
I know this because I use them as a modifier and the cost is really low for used items. You can add shadows and interest to certain images. I know that cameras and equipment are very expensive, This is a low cost way to modify the light and they are free standing. You could buy a 4 X 8 sheet of plywood or foam, which can create a problem. Like where do you store it.
If you buy room dividers remember that you should have at least 3 sections or 4 is better. Solid one's work really well and I use Profoto strobes with a narrow soft-box with a grid. That will control light but they migrate outward to the side. The room dividers can limit this change and control it and use it as a ascent also at the same time.
This is a simplified method to control light at low cost.
