I’ve seen a few here that look too good to be true… simple backgrounds or out of focus nature, no credits, very repetitive poses

You never hear the phrase "A picture never lies" anymore!

Enjoy the older unedited images of beauty, while they still exist on Model Mayhem, as who knows what the future may bring.

There are probably quite a few.

I suspect at least one. Coincidentally that same account is in another photographer's "black list." It's probably a good idea to chat to local photographers and models if you have doubts about someone.

Check to see what the date was when the image was posted on Model Mayhem. If it is pre 2024 the less likely it will be AI.

It would be interesting to find the date the first retouchers joined MM and if Retoucher was a category from the inception of MM.

Will AI lead to the end of human retouchers or will it simply add to their ability?

UPDATE 30.12.2025: The widespread availability of advanced AI photo software in Australia aligns with its global release, with key generative AI tools becoming publicly accessible in late 2022 and early 2023, though the underlying technology has been developing for much longer.

I am both a Photographer and an AI Image Creator… Sometimes I even mix the two ie a photograph of a Real Model pasted and blended on a digital background ( none of my my work here reflects that as all the photos taken in 2016 and earlier )

I just wanted to say that while Photographers edit their photos so that the Models look more perfect, AI Image creators might edit their Photos so that the Models look less perfect and more Human

To quote you: "AI Image creators might edit their Photos so that the Models look less perfect and more Human."

As a photographer do you retouch your photos so that your models look more perfect and do you also use AI to edit your photos so that your models look less perfect and more human???

Perhaps in your workflow you are wearing three hats: 1. Photographer 2. Retoucher and 3. an AI image creator.

The difference between an AI image creator and a retoucher is fundamental: a retoucher edits and enhances existing images to improve their quality, correct flaws, or align them with a specific artistic vision.

While an AI image creator generates original images from scratch based on text prompts,

They serve entirely different functions within the creative workflow.

We do not allow AI model profiles. If you suspect a profile is AI, please report it, and we will remove it.

However, we do allow members to utilize AI for retouching, backgrounds, etc, but the model(s) must be human.

It is getting harder to tell the difference as AI rapidly advances, but we use multiple tools to identify AI images, and we also rely on members to help us.

There are a ton of AI fake models on Faceook right now.  Meta has sold out to the Chinese spam bots.
